Colour removal

Self-regenerating process with no need to replace media or remove sludge.

Water reuse for ZLD and ZDHC

Our tertiary water treatment processes can be a key part of your Zero Liquid Discharge or Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals strategy.

Complementary technology

Our modular systems can be used to protect and prolong life of other treatment processes.

Why choose a Nyex water treatment process?

Arvia’s Nyex™ solutions help textile manufacturers to meet discharge consent limits with respect to organics in the form of COD, colour and specific hazardous chemicals, such as Nonylphenols.

Primary and secondary textile wastewater treatment processes target the bulk of contaminants which are much easier to remove. However, the recalcitrant chemicals are often left and this is where we come in.

Not only is Nyex™ treated water safe to discharge – it can also be reused, cutting utility bills and protecting our exhausted water supplies.

Some of the benefits of the Nyex™ water treatment systems to the textile industry:

1

Remove colour

Removing colour and smell from textile effluent to enable water reuse or discharge.

2

COD polishing step

Treat COD to low/trace levels, ideal as a polishing step for recalcitrant COD.

3

Remove specific hazardous chemicals

Reduce specific hazardous chemicals like phenols and nonylphenols to ppm.

4

Support CSR mission

Our Nyex processes do not use chemical dosing and do not produce toxic sludge which supports your environmental strategy.

5

Removal of pesticide residues from natural yarns

Nyex is super-effective at removing pesticides which could be useful for cleaning naturally grown fibres like cotton, before production.

6

Low maintenance, easy operation

The systems are easy to install, require no chemical dosing and produce no secondary waste like sludge – meaning that they are extremely low maintenance and environmentally friendly.

Colour removal from textile wastewater

During later stages of processing, activities like bleaching and dyeing in dyehouses can also come with severe environmental impacts. Most of the dyestuffs used are absorbed by fabrics, however, around 20% remains in the water and needs specialist water treatment.

You can use GAC for this, but that comes at significant cost to the environment with trucking of spent media for renewal and/or disposal.

Our Nyex system is a combination of adsorption (like GAC) and electrochemical oxidation. It is the low current which completely oxidises the colour from our Nyex media, regenerating it in-situ. The result is colour removal with very low impact on the environment, so a tick in the CSR box.

Water reuse for Zero Liquid Discharge

Safeguarding the environment is a KPI for many major fashion brands and the creation of groups such as the ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) is testament to the industry’s commitment to CSR.

Helping our clients to meet ZDHC guidelines and avoiding discharge fines and negative press is something we do. We also help them to move towards their Zero Liquid Discharge goals by enabling more water reuse.

Enabling recycling and reuse of water to improve overall water footprint in support of environmental strategies and sustainable manufacturing

The reason we can help with this is as, unlike many more traditional tertiary water treatment processes, Nyex can reduce pollutants to extremely low levels at low energy. This is because they are first concentrated on our patented Nyex media before oxidising.

Complementary technology

Typically, the Nyex™ process is placed as the final ‘polishing’ step in an onsite treatment train. As a tertiary solution, we have helped clients meet COD consent limits of up to 30 mg/L, as well as full colour removal.

However, because Nyex systems are modular and can be scaled for purpose, they are very suitable to slot into an existing treatment train to help another process become more efficient.

Examples of this are removal of phenol before biological treatments, or protection of RO membranes from certain organic chemicals. We have also treated water before a GAC bed to reduce the maintenance requirements of the GAC to negligible levels.
